Bethell, Union

Submitted by Tamara Kincaide.

UNION BETHELL was a substantial businessman who operations extended as far as Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis, New Orleans and Liverpool. He made his home here till death came in 1907.

His widow EVA PARRETT BETHELL coming home one Wednesday evening after prayer service to find their home had been burglarized in June 1915. She ran down the hill to a neighbor’s home and there she collapsed and died. She was a kind and gentle woman. Their son UNION was senior vice president and operating head of American Telephone and Telegraph from 1910 to 1919.
