The Family of Franz Reiman and Alma Rosina Katdwitz
This family came from the area around Liegnitz Germany which is now Legnica , Poland . This area has been a big military center since medieval times. The Soviets used this area for one of the largest Soviet Tank Divisions.
The Reiman families have said that Franz Reiman was a German War Officer and wanted to get his family out of Germany to America so the sons would not have to serve in the German Military. We have to prove this story. The family apparently didn?t all come at once. It seems tht franz sister in law Theresia Reiman brought Franz and Rosina?s children to America in June of 1859, with the exception of Anna. They came to the Port of New Orleans , and on to Evansville . When she got the family settled, Theresia went back to liegnitz and rejoined her family. In 1864 Theresia, her husband Joseph and their family, including Franz? Anna came to Indiana too. Some of this is supposition which we have pieced together from the records. Franz ran a flour mill at Millersburg in Warrick County .
The Joseph Reiman who is buried beside Franz in St. John?s Cemetery in Warrick County , appears to be Franz? brother. His wife was Mary Theresia Schultz.
Over the last year I have compiled the history of this family, and though it is far from complete, I hope that this will help others who might be researching this family. Many of the descendants still live around the Evansville area.
I will be happy to correct mistakes and I would welcome additions. You may contact me at the address below.
One surprise that we found as we were checking the 1870 census, was another child of Franz and Rosina. Rosina died in October of 1869. Franz or Frank Reiman and Elizabeth Goebb were married in Vanderburgh County in 1870. In the 1870 census this family is shown with a 5 year old son Frank, which has to be the son of Franz and Rosina. Our families didn?t know about him.
As we searched for this young Frank, we find him in the 1900 census in Henderson County , KY with hisi family listed as Rayman. We find him married to Mildred Lewis in Henderson County . Then in 1910 we find him in Posey County as Frank Raymond. We find him in the Browning Database listed as J Frank Raymond and again as Joseph Frank Raymond, and all his family continues with the name of Raymond. His descendants may not know of the Reiman name.
Frank and Rosina?s second son Robert Franz has remained a mystery. We find his marriage to Mary Ries in Vanderburgh County . We find him listed in his sister Matilda?s obit, as living in San Antonio , Tx . Then in his sister Margaret Farny?s obit in March of 1930 he was living in Evansville. That is all we have been able to locate.
Augusta the third child of Franz and Rosina?s was a Catholic Nun and served as a teacher in various German Convent Schools in southern Indiana. She is buried at St. Mary?s in the Woods in Vigo County , Indiana.
